The Time is Always Right

Season 19

About the Event

BETC presents The Time is Always Right with partners Boulder Philharmonic and Boulder Ballet’s Jarrett Rashad and Company Artists. Written and directed by Kenya Mahogany

Join us as we honor the brilliance and sacrifices of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his fellow Civil Rights leaders through music, dance and the spoken word.

Synopsis
The year is 2044. Jordan is skeptical about marching to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy and activism…it feels like old news. Her AI companion pushes her to interrogate the past by traveling through time to experience it – reaching beyond the soundbytes we think we know by heart to encounter the Civil Rights movement and the different people who strengthened a world-changing movement and influenced Martin Luther King, Jr. to be who he was.

The music of a Boulder Philharmonic quartet and dance by Boulder Ballet‘s choreographer Jarrett Rashad and Company artists course through Jordan’s story and help her dig deeper rather than skim the surface.
