A.R. Gurney’s award-winning Broadway play mines the love letters exchanged between two friends to track their decades-long infatuation and eventual love for one another.
A finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, Love Letters is a funny, poignant, profound exploration of young love that lasts a lifetime, as seen through letters written over nearly a half century.
BETC Ensemble members Billie McBride and Jim Hunt will perform this beautiful and touching staged reading at the Gordon Gamm Theater on February 14th for one day only.
The play is directed by BETC Ensemble member and playwright Josh Hartwell.
All proceeds will go toward BETC’s education community outreach initiatives.
CAST & ARTISTIC TEAM
Jim Hunt (Ensemble Member) received the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Theatre Guild’s Henry Awards. Previous BETC roles include Abraham Yahuda in Hysteria, Kaufmann in Bach at Leipzig, Woolsey in Ghost-Writer, Clark/Taylor/Ensemble in Gross Indecency, and Sterling in Mauritius. Other recent credits include Lewis opposite Bob Moore’s Clark in The Sunshine Boys at Lake Dillon Theatre Company; Scrooge in Josh Hartwell’s adaptation of A Christmas Carol at Backstage Theatre in Breckenridge; and Selsdon in Colorado Shakespeare Festival’s Noises Off. Jim is also a proud Curious Theatre company member.
Billie McBride (Ensemble Member) spent 20 years in NYC prior to moving to Colorado doing theatre and Television. Her NY stage credits include Torch Song Trilogy (Helen Hayes), Safe Sex (Lyceum) and The Kurt Weill Cabaret (Bijou Theatre). Since moving to Colorado she has worked at The Denver Center (Benediction, The Giver, Richard III, Noises Off,and Trip to Bountiful) and The Arvada Center (The Women, Cabaret, The Importance of Being Earnest, Moon Over Buffalo, Picnic, To Kill A Mockingbird, and The Full Monty). Other theaters include And Toto Too (Lost Creatures, Pardon My Dust), Lake Dillon Theatre (Velocity of Autumn), The Pluss at the JCC (Poignant Irritations), TheatreWorks (The Lying Kind), The Barth Hotel (Driving Miss Daisy, On Golden Pond, The Last Romance, and Steel Magnolias), The Cherry Creek Theatre (4000 Miles, Driving Miss Daisy), Miners Alley Playhouse (Grace and Glorie) in which she won a Henry Award for Most Outstanding Actress, and BETC for Ripcord and Outside Mullingar. She has won 3 Henry Awards for acting and directing and was given the Theatre Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. Billie is also a director and Voice Over Talent and is a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association.
Josh Hartwell (Director) is an Artistic Company Member at Curious Theatre Company in Denver, and an Ensemble Member at Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company (BETC). He was Colorado’s first Regional Representative for the Dramatists Guild. A playwright, teaching artist, and actor, Hartwell won the Denver Post Ovation Award for “Best Actor in a Comic Role” for his work in Clybourne Park in 2011, and a True West Award in 2017.
As a playwright, Hartwell is represented by Abrams Artists Agency in NY. Contrived Ending (Ovation Award and Henry Award nominees) earned feature film and Off-Broadway contracts with Starry Night Entertainment. The Rank and the Bloodrush was a finalist for The O’Neill Festival’s New Play Conference and won second place at the Bottletree One Act Play Competition in Kingston, Ontario. A Different Client was produced in Auckland, NZ; Melbourne and Sydney, AU; and Buffalo NY. Hartwell’s “splattershock” holiday play Resolutions had its world premiere in 2017 at Edge Theatre. Queen of Conspiracy was commissioned by and premiered at Miners Alley Playhouse in 2019. Home, Oblivion was a Curious Theatre commission and workshop with director M. Graham Smith and NNPN’s residency program for National Directing Fellows.
Hartwell was co-writer for Buntport Theater’s monthly family-friendly shows, Trunks and Duck Duck Dupe. He has written plays for Curious Theatre Company’s “Denver Stories” since 2005—including RIDING ON A RIVER OF BEER: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE HON. JOHN HICKENLOOPER. He has been a mentor and instructor for emerging playwrights with Curious New Voices since 2008, The Denver Center for Performing Arts since 2014, and BETC’s (inter)Generations since 2020.
